When we see representations of the Mayan goddess Ixchel, we invariably conjure up a woman with certain characteristics, such as a young woman or an old woman. However, with this painting, I wanted to represent her most characteristic symbols, such as the rabbit (fertility), the snake (catastrophe or medicine), water, and the colors of the cardinal points of the Mayan universe (white, red, black, and yellow). Thus, at the same time, the work's coloring represents the meaning of her name: "rainbow woman."
